“Come Together” implores Washington state Starbucks coffee cups – Starbucks friendly attempt at urging policymakers to avoid tax increases and federal spending cuts coming on Tuesday.
Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz, said on the company blog “Rather than be bystanders, We have an opportunity – and I believe a responsibility – to use our company’s scale for good by sending a respectful and optimistic message to our elected officials to come together and reach common ground on this important issue.”
The campaign is running from Wednesday through Friday, with employees handwriting the message on cups in Washington cafe’s. Schultz continued on the blog “It’s a small gesture, but the power of small gestures is what Starbucks is about! Imagine the power of our partners and hundreds of thousands of customers each sharing such a simple message, one cup at a time.”
Starbucks is only one of many company’s who’s CEO’ s are pushing for policymakers to come together and figure out how to avoid the fiscal cliff by making a deficit reduction deal. Most economists agree that if the tax increases and spending cuts happen, another recession is inevitable.
Starbucks is also promoting their message in print ads and via social networks.
