Four Reasons You Can Work Better at a Coffee Shop

I’ve heard them, as I’m sure you have – people scoffing at others taking their laptops to (INSERT COFFEE SHOP HERE) and sipping their latte while typing away fervently at their keyboard. Granted, not everyone is actually working on the next big novel or hurriedly trying to meet their bosses deadline or studying for the final exam – some just like to be seen in public with their laptops or can’t stay away from their favorite blogs (ahem) for even a minute. This piece is dedicated to the aforementioned – I’m on your side. I can actually list reasons, which I will do so here in a second, why you are actually working smarter by lounging comfortably in that coffee shop and working on those TPS reports. Feel free to direct your next critic here.

1. Most likely, unless you live in a town of pop.500, you aren’t going to know most people in the coffee shop. This equals less distraction, less time consuming conversation, less assistance requests, and less problems than you experience at home or the office – probably combined.

2. When you’re at your local coffee perch, it’s most likely a bustling, generally happy, always smelling good kind of place – leaving you in a better mood. Better moods = more accomplished.

3. Do I even need to mention the steady flow of caffeine you have at your fingertips?

4. Inspiration. I’m not saying you’re guaranteed mona lisa-esque inspiration, but being in public places instead of at home can lead to some mood/idea inspiring conversations and sightings.
