Okay, I really liked the Guatemala Hunapu Lot #2. Right out of the bag you have a decadent aroma that reminds you of a smoky molasses with a slight fruity background.
The beans are roasted to a nice medium finish:
So, I ground the beans, added them to the French press, poured in my water, and immediately this warm and rich chocolate color sprang forth with a nice bloom.
When poured, the coffee retained that rich chocolate color, and the smoky molasses aroma became even stronger.
Interestingly, when I sipped the coffee, the flavor was in reverse order from the aroma. First you experience a very fruity and subtly sweet flavor, with just a slight acidity, then the bold molasses and smoke flavor comes around to the front and balances out the sweet flavor nicely. Finally, the finish is dry and almost wine-like – a very nice ending that just rounds out the whole experience.
This is my favorite coffee sample from Temple Coffee so far. A very well balanced coffee full of complimenting flavors.
