Green Mountain Supporting Clean Water

I wanted to personally mention Green Mountain’s efforts here because they are toward water projects in Nicaragua, something I have supported for years, along with similar water projects in Africa. Green Mountain pledged a significant amount of money, $2 million, towards the water projects currently being carried on in communities in Nicaragua as part of its Building a Better World Together™ campaign. Bravo, GM!

It’s funding is going towards supporting two ongoing water projects in Nicaragua that are working towards increasing community access to clean water, improving food security, and providing education, sanitation, nutrition, and environmental protection. Currently, according to UNICEF, only 68% of Nicaraguan residents have access to clean and drinkable water.

Green Mountain will be working closely with two organizations with it’s support. The first being “Water For People”, which works in communities in San Rafael del Norte and is partnered with the Nicaraguan government, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education, and three different coffee coops. GM will be providing $1,250,000 over five years to the organization to help their plan of providing full water coverage in the area by 2017. The second organization is the Association of Social Development of Nicaragua. The goal of this organization is to provide a better quality of life for 800 families within 10 coffee producing communities. In the end if the goal is reached, 90% of the families will have access to clean and usable water.

I love seeing things like this happen, and quality of life improved where it is so needed. If you are interested in donating yourself, you can visit the organization’s websites at the following addresses:
