Here we are updating you again on what has turned out to be a long and drawn out battle between Starbucks and Patrick Dempsey’s company Global Barista’s over the bankruptcy auction of Tully’s Coffee.

Global Barista’s won the bid with over $9 million offer which was accepted. Dempsey has made it clear from the start that he intends to retain all current jobs at Tully’s, keep all stores open, and work on expanding the company. Other bidders did not express the same intentions, such as Starbucks who planned on dismantling the company if won.

After the announcement of Global Barista’s win, Starbucks immediately took issue and requested an appeal with the presiding Judge Overstreet, stating that Global Barista’s had unfair popular attention during the process, and voicing an issue that Dempsey’s company won even though they offered a lower bid amount than Starbucks. Currently, Judge Overstreet is hearing appeals from both sides in the courtroom.

Tully’s continues to stand behind Global Barista’s win, stating it is better for the company and for the employees, and that Dempsey most closely shares Tully’s ideas for the future of the coffee company.
