Caribou Coffee Purchased by German Conglomerate Joh A. Benckiser

Recently Caribou Coffee celebrated an important anniversary, but that’s not the only important thing that happened to this coffee company – they were also just purchased by a German conglomerate, Joh A. Benckiser. Benckiser also purchased Peet’ s Coffee and Tea back in July of this year for one billion dollars.

So, what’s to become of these two gourmet coffee chains under new ownership? In the spirit of speculation, they could possibly be merged. It would make sense since Peets is primarily in the West, and Caribou hails from the East and Midwest. However, the two chains could also continue to be run independently and be grown to cover more geographic locations. Again, we can only speculate, but we are sure to see some changes within the new year.
