Today, Caribou Coffee announced that this April it will be joining up with Project 7 to try and make a difference in the world.
Caribou, together with Project 7, both share a commitment to community and sustainability. Caribou Coffee was the first major US coffee house to source all its coffee from only Rainforest Alliance Certified Farms, and always promotes practices that support sustainability and environmental protection. While Project 7 is a company that centers itself around “products for good”, with such programs as Helping to Feed the Hungry, Heal the Sick, Hope for Peace, House for the Homeless, Quench the Thirsty, Teach them Well, and Save the Earth.
Caribou and Project 7 are now launching a social media initiative for Earth Month, motivating fans everywhere to participate and show their commitment to the environment. With this project, for every new “like” that both companies receive on Facebook they will be planting a fruit tree in Central or South America. This will be done in hopes that it will not only help to restore the earth, but also provide a good source of food for the community that can also be used for sources of trading and economy improvements.
In addition to planting the trees for every “like” they receive, the companies will also be planting a tree for each purchase of “Save the Earth” water, mints, or gum that is purchased in Caribou locations throughout the month of April.
Caribou has actually already been donating already with every purchase made in their store of the gum, water, and mints. In 2012, Caribou and its partnership with Project 7 planted more than 100,000 trees, fed more than 35,000 meals to the hungry in the US, and provided over 3,000 days of shelter for the needy.
Senior VP of Caribou, Alfredo Martel, says of the partnership “At Caribou, we believe that providing our fans with extraordinary coffeehouse experiences and being environmentally and socially responsible go hand in hand. We’re thrilled to partner with Project 7 this year in celebration of Earth Month to provide support around the world in helping our society and environment. We also want to get our fans involved in the action, so we’re excited to be able to engage them in stores and online, and rally them around this cause that’s close to our hearts.”
In order to promote their goal of sustainability, Caribou gives 10 cents off every drink to each customer who brings in a reusable tumblr in any one of their locations. They will also be providing a free coffee to participants who bring in a mug or tumblr to use on April 22nd, 2013.
