Burger King is taking its coffee seriously. On Thursday, they announced plans for a giant upgrade in its coffee area and offers. In partnership with Seattle’s Best Coffee, they will double their coffee offerings to a whopping (just had to do it) 10. This move is being made at a time where American consumerism is demanding coffee options, and demanding them now. Just as an example, coffee servings jumped 6% just last year. “A great line of coffee is the foundation of a great breakfast,” says Eric Hirschhorn, vice president of innovation at Burger King. We couldn’t agree more.
Soft drink sales have been on a steady decline, while coffee has been on the up and up. Industry researcher, Malcolm Knapp says “They’re a lot more profitable than cheeseburgers or fries.” Restaurants have been relying a great deal more on coffee sales to boost their profits.
Burger King will be installing latte machines in all its stores, but down the road they may even start offering cappuccinos. It’s also replacing its current brewed coffee with a new Seattle’s Best blend. The coffee pricing isn’t half bad either: Iced coffees in plain, vanilla, mocha, and caramel form will go for $1.49, and lattes (available in the same flavors) will go for $2.29 for small and $3.49 for large. All lattes will be rolled out in March of this year.
