You already know that owning a French press is imperative to brewing great coffee at home, and you’re already familiar with the standard layout of French presses – which, don’t get me wrong, is a tried and true model. But, as some of these designers have shown us, breaking the mold can be a good thing. Check out some of these presses that brew outside of the box:
XPress Lid French Press
We don’t agree with their stance that this lid will make for more environmentally friendly coffee serving – most people aren’t going to recycle these disposable lids – but, it’s really a novel idea. Fresh brewed coffee on-the-go. Once the water is poured over the grounds, you’re really supposed to wait a few minutes before pressing to ensure the grounds and water have been in contact long enough in order to properly saturate your brew, so with this lid there’s now waiting around – grind, pour, pop the lid on and go. You can press the plunger down once you’re in the car. This would be a great thing for coffee shops to offer their busy clients as well. While we can certainly see the functionality, we haven’t tried the brew results yet, but we’re working on that.

French Press Commuter Cup
Like the XPress lid, but reusable. This is better suited for personal use. Just fill it with your favorite ground beans, some hot water, and go!

Bodum Bistro
We love this because it simplifies an already simple process. The Bodum Bistro automatically heats up your water to the perfect temperature, then when ready it adds it to the carafe you’ve pre-filled with the coffee of your choice, and you simply plunge the coffee and pour. Voila!
