I was in contact with one of the owners of Abundant Life Coffee Group a few weeks ago, during which time we discussed some samples I’d wanted to try. Yesterday, I received my samples – all 2 bags of it (thanks Abundant Life!).
Right away I could smell the coffee, I’m talking straight through the shipping box. The bean packaging is nice, very simple and to the point, with one bag in a nice natural colour and the other in a bright silver. On the back of each bag is the Abundant Life background story, describing the farms the coffee originates from and Abundant Life’s partnership with the Lenca Indians in Honduras.
Upon opening the bag, which although is sealed very well for optimal freshness is very difficult to open, my nostrils were filled with a pungent and smoky aroma radiating from the dark roast beans. And the beans were beautiful – perfect in colour and absolutely glistening with the oil you look for in a good batch of coffee.
After grinding the beans, I set them in the French Press – the best way to experience all the flavours you’re meant to. While the coffee was blooming, the aroma became even stronger, and the bloom was thicker on this than other coffees. The brewed colour was a very deep brown and caramel colour.
Drinking the coffee is on an entirely other level. Your mouth is immediately filled with smoky goodness, with a light sweet background and some fruity notes. Absolutely divine. Coffee drinkers who prefer creamer in their coffee wouldn’t even need it because this boldly flavoured coffee is so robust and well rounded. The acidity seemed very even to me in this cup, as well. Always a plus.
All in all, a fabulous cup of coffee. I highly recommend them and will definitely be purchasing from them in the future. If you’re interested in trying some yourself, visit www.abundantlifecoffee.com. Or, you can call this Kennesaw, GA based company at 404-791-5458.
Happy sipping!
